Around the watershed

August delivered an average of 5.96 inches of precipitation to the Great Miami River Watershed 2.87 inches above the monthly average. The high station was Miamisburg (9.11 inches), and the low station was Lakeview (3.49 inches). As of the end of August, the Great Miami River Watershed had received an average of 26.81 inches of precipitation in 2016 which is 1.33 inches below normal for this point in the calendar year.

Come to the Test Your Well event on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Free private well water tests for nitrates and iron at the Test Your Well event at Carlisle High School. Learn all the details about the event including how to prepare your water sample.

Just a reminder, a section of the Mad River Bike Trail in Dayton is closed as the city of Dayton replaces the Webster Street Bridge. Bridge construction is expected to be complete in 2017.

The Walk A Mile In Her Shoes event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at Welcome Stadium. Contact Kathryn Bosomworth at 847.902.5414 for more information.

The Miles4Malia Walk will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon. Sponsored by North Riverdale Lutheran Church, the walk will be an out-and-back from Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark to Island Park band shell. Contact Robin Wilson at 937.545.8799 for more information.

The 5K-9 Run, Walk & Wag will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. along the Great Miami River bikeway in Miamisburg. Contact Sheila Russell at 937.219.1271.

The AGSP A Great Start Preschool 5K will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 9 to 11 a.m. along the Great Miami River Trail in Miamisburg. Contact Lindsey McIntire at 937.776.0991 for more information.
